How to Install SuperSprings for Better Load Support in Your Motorhome

Improve your motorhome's stability and reduce sag with SuperSprings installation.

If you’ve ever noticed your motorhome sagging in the rear when fully loaded or while towing, you’re not alone. A common issue in many RVs and motorhomes is rear-end sag, which can affect your vehicle’s stability and overall handling. Fortunately, SuperSprings offer a simple, effective solution for this problem. These helper springs mount above your factory leaf springs and automatically engage under load to provide extra support.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to installing SuperSprings in your motorhome for better load support and improved handling.

What You’ll Need for the Installation

  • Tools:

    • Socket wrench set

    • Torque wrench

    • Floor jack and jack stands

    • Lug wrench (if removing wheels)

    • Work gloves and safety glasses

  • SuperSprings Kit:

    • The SuperSprings kit comes with the helper springs, necessary brackets, hardware, and detailed instructions.

Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle

  1. Park your motorhome on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

  2. Chock the front wheels to prevent movement while you’re working on the rear suspension.

  3. Use a floor jack to lift the rear of the motorhome, and secure it on jack stands. This step is not always necessary but provides better access to the suspension.

Step 2: Locate the Factory Leaf Springs

  1. Under the rear axle of your motorhome, locate the factory leaf springs. The SuperSprings will sit above the existing leaf spring pack, so you'll need to identify the area where they’ll be mounted.

  2. Inspect the surrounding area to ensure no obstructions, like brake lines or brackets, will interfere with the installation of the SuperSprings.

Step 3: Position the SuperSprings

  1. Place the polyurethane spring pad (PSP-12) on top of the existing leaf spring pack, centered between the U-bolts (if your kit includes them).

  2. Position the SuperSpring on top of the pad, aligning it with the leaf pack.

  3. Ensure that the shackles are positioned with the threaded ends pointing outward, and that everything is lined up before proceeding.

Step 4: Attach the Shackles and Rollers

  1. Rotate the shackles downward and ensure they sit properly on both sides of the leaf spring.

  2. If needed, use heavy-duty clamps (or a SuperSprings installation tool) to compress the SuperSpring and leaf pack together for easier alignment.

  3. Insert the sleeves and HDPE rollers into the shackle mounting holes.

  4. Secure everything with ½” hex bolts and nylock nuts, but do not fully tighten yet. This ensures you can make adjustments in the final step.

Step 5: Final Adjustments and Torqueing

  1. Adjust the spring location to ensure at least ½” of clearance between the SuperSprings and any surrounding components.

  2. Double-check that the shackles are properly aligned and not interfering with brake lines or brackets. If necessary, reroute cables or slightly bend brackets for clearance.

  3. Once everything is in place, use a torque wrench to tighten the shackle bolts to the manufacturer’s recommended specifications (typically around 35 ft-lbs).

Step 6: Lower the Vehicle and Test the Ride

  1. Lower the motorhome back down to the ground and remove the jack stands.

  2. Remove the wheel chocks.

  3. Take your motorhome for a test drive. You should immediately notice better stability, less rear-end sag, and more controlled handling when turning and maneuvering.

Final Tip
After driving for about 200–500 miles, it's a good idea to recheck all hardware for tightness. Suspension components can settle, and it's important to ensure everything stays securely fastened.
